"Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern." Alfred North Whitehead, Dialogues (1954)

Patterns are everywhere, from birds in formation to the markings on the skin of a pineapple, to the algorithims that drive modern search engines. It is our ability to efficiently recognize and analyze them that plays key role in what makes us human. However, that same efficiency often leads to a desensitization of seeing the beauty in many patterns we encounter. My work uses simple objects, like balls and hoops, combined with precision computer control, to in entice the viewer into pattern watching. The result is mesmerizing, even astonishing, that such a simple construct could produce such intricate and varied patterns. This is synchroKinetic sculpture.
